Formative—The James Irvine Foundation:
The James Irvine Foundation was established in 1937 to benefit the people of California. They are one of California's foremost philanthropies - focused on grantmaking for the arts, youth, and promoting broader governmental participation. Unfortunately their website did not reflect the sophistication of the organization, nor did it adequately present the impressive work of their nearly 3,000 grantees. Irvine wanted a site that was distinctive, flexible and easy to refresh with a constant flow of new content.
Formative was chosen to design and develop the new James Irvine Foundation website - all 500+ pages of it. To give Irvine's staff maximum ability to manage and maintain their own content, we built the site around an easy-to-use content management system (CMS). An open-source CMS with a large developer and user-base was chosen so that the new site would benefit from security patch releases, new features and extensions and the large community of support that comes with a widely adopted open-source solution.
